What Kind of Christian Are You? (first 10.1.12)
I was at a local eatery- having a happy slice- and we got to talking about what kind of folks might join Zion Pentecost Mission, and more particularly what kind of Christian I am?
After twenty six years of being a Christian, I was hoping to have gained an exemption from this question. But it's like folks asking your marital or dating status. Until folks get their pound of answer, the conversation doesn't move on.
So I told the pizza guy "I'm a gung-ho Christian", and after a couple of minutes on that, he blurted out "everyone believes, but not everybody wants to worship."
Praise God, our most gifted present day scribes couldn't have answered any better.
And I also aim to follow Jesus, not just have philosophical beliefs in my head.
That means I'm aiming to love beyond my own resources for love.
It means I'm aiming to forgive always, to refrain from judging, and hating. It also means I seek to serve everybody with the Jesus who lives in me, the hope of glory.
I've tried telling people "I'm just a Christian" (which should cover it), but most folks have some follow up.
I've also been tempted to say, like most of us could, "I'm an ex this or that."
But if brand names don't answer the question in the first instance, how much less do ex brand names thereafter?
Or, I've also tried "I'm a non denominational Christian."
I'm warming more and more to this answer, rather than being placed on your church bingo board.
So, like I said, I'm just a gung-ho, non-denominational follower of Jesus, seeking all He has to give and teach, so that I in turn can preach "the whole counsel of God" (Acts 20,27).
Does that answer your question?
If not, I know a man who said there's a time when we all have to take leave of questions and "come and see."
