The first gentile Christians also needed the powerful gospel words of 1Peter1,18 and 19, so they could confidently become part of the chosen royal gospel priesthood now made up of faithful Jews and gentiles. (1Peter2,9) This study also addresses curses on people and the land, and the freedom from all evil by personal faith in Jesus, the blood of the lamb, and humanity's deliverance from the curse of sin and the way of death unto living our new life in God, the way of salvation in Jesus' Name. This is the merciful invitation of God to all. But there is also the fair warning to all the peoples of the world of 1Peter4,3-5: "For you spent enough time in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and detestable idolatry. 4 They think it strange that you you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation and they heap abuse upon you. 5 But they will have to give an account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead." NIV Using the example of Impious King Ahab and his wife Jezebel we also delve into the topic of blessings or curses upon a land- a place- and nation for sustained disobedience of religious and political classes- which speaks to our own present day. But as I have learned in about 25 years when it comes to preaching- it's surprise surprise surprise!
