Universalism Or God's Word For Salvation

first 8.12.14

Universalism: "a theological doctrine that all men will eventually be saved or restored to holiness and happiness." (Webster's Third International Dictionary, 1993)

Universalist: "a member of a Christian denomination founded in America in the 18th century and holding the view that all men will ultimately be saved, employing a modified congregational polity, having as its head a general convention and using no strictly creedal basis but having members who for the most part acknowledge their common purpose to be the performance of the will of God as revealed by Jesus Christ and the establishment of the kingdom for which he lived and died and who acknowledge belief in God, in the leadership of Jesus Christ, in the supreme worth of every human personality, in the authority of truth now known or to be known, in the power of men of good will to overcome evil, and in their power to establish progressively God's kingdom on earth." (Ibid)

Or God's Word That Says Only The Faithful Will Be Saved:

Genesis 7,18-23: "The ark floated on the surface of the swollen waters as they increased over the earth. 19 They increased more and more until they covered all the high mountains everywhere under heaven. 20 The water increased more and more until the mountains were covered to a depth of fifteen cubits [15x18"] 21 Every living thing that moved on earth perished: birds, cattle, wild animals, all creatures that swarm on the ground, and all human beings. 22 Everything on dry land died, everything that had the breath of life in its nostrils. 23 God wiped out every living creature that existed on earth, man and beast, creeping thing and bird; they were all wiped out over the whole earth, and only Noah and those who were with him in the ark survived."

Zechariah9,6-7: "Yes I shall destroy the pride of the Philistine; and I shall snatch his blood from his mouth, his abominations from between his teeth. But his remnant too will belong to our God, becoming like a clan in Judah, and Ekron will become like a Jebusite."

Zechariah13,8 (during the final tribulation before the messianic age):"So it will be throughout the country [Israel] that two thirds of the people will be struck down and die, while one third of them will be left there. I shall pass this third through the fire, refining them as silver is refined."

1Peter4,4-6: "Now, when you no longer plunge with the pagans into all this reckless dissipation, they cannot understand it and start abusing you; but they will have got give an acount of themselves to him who is ready to pass judgment on the living and the dead. This is why the gospel was preached even to the dead [who died prior to Jesus' incarnation, who had no chance to accept the gospel]: in order that, although dead in the body they were condemned to die as everyone dies, yet in the spirit they might live as God lives."

Matthew 19,24-26: "I repeat, it easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. 25 The disciples were astonished when they heard this, and exclaimed, 'Then who can be saved?' 26 Jesus looked at them and said, 'For men this is impossible; but everything is possible for God.'" See also Mark10,25 and Luke 18,25.

Jude v. 7: "and in eternal fire they paid the penalty."

Luke16,22-31: "One day the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and there, far away, was Abraham with Lazarus close beside him. 24 'Abraham, my father,' he called out, 'Take pity on me! Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water, to cool my tongue, for I am in agony in this fire.' 25 But Abraham said, 'My child, remember that the good things fell on you in your lifetime, and the bad to Lazarus. Now he has consolation here and it is you who are in agony. 26 But that is not all: there is a great gulf fixed between us. No one can cross it from our side to reach you, and none may pass from your side to us.' 27 'Then, father,' he replied, 'will you send him to my father's house, where I have five brothers, to warn them, so that they may not come to this place of torment? 29 But Abrham said, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them listen to them.' 'No father Abraham,' he replied, 'but if someone from the dead visits them, they will repent.' 31 Abraham answered, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets they will pay no heed even if someone should rise from the dead."

Matthew 25,6-12: "And at midnight a cry was heard: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!' 7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' 9 But the wise answered saying. 'No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell [the hucksters and charlatans of today? that try and sell  the Holy Ghost anointing], and buy for yourselves.' 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord,Lord, open to us!' 12 But he answered and said, 'Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.' "

Revelation19,7-9: "Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready. 8 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. 9 Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the lamb!' And he said to me. 'These are the true sayings of God.' "

What Say You About Universalism?

Do you put your trust for eternal salvation in the doctrine of universalism? (It's becoming the norm, not just the doctrine of one church.)

Likewise, do you entrust your eternal salvation to churches that make up their own "gospels" like the "prosperity gospel" as they go along?

Do you measure your salvation by the word of "teachers" and "saints" and Luther and Calvin and "Bishop so and so" and "Pastor so and so" or by the whole counsel of God's word?

Do you trust that you gained eternal life by your infant baptism?

Do you trust that you are born again because someone told you so after you professed faith? Or, because you know Christ lives in you because you are baptized in the Spirit?
