Eternal Gospel: In Isaiah; No Change Orders; The Joy That Cures

The "Eternal Gospel" In Isaiah (10-6-2025)
We know God is eternal- and we know Jesus is the Word, and that per John 1,1 that the Word was God. So we also know the words of the bible are an eternal word.

The bible is full of God's prophetic eternal words and plans- words that have already come true, words that are coming true, and words that will come true in the future. Yes we can say that even the prophetic words in the bible that haven't come true yet are still eternal words- for they have been spoken and written by God.

Revelation14,6 adds something to our conversation about God's eternal word. It speaks of a urgent vision of a latter day angel having the "eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on earth- to every nation, tribe, language and people." We Christians especially share this latter day angel's mission- in that we have and trust all sixty six books of the God's Word, and especially the last book of the bible filled with prophetic words of the revelation of Jesus Christ "which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place." Revelation1,1

However, the Hebrew scriptures- the first two thirds of our bible- and especially the book of Isaiah- also has many prophetic words that form the basis of our fully received and revealed "eternal gospel." In fact, the eternal gospel in Isaiah is no paltry thing- for it predicts the very particular future suffering servant (who we Christians know as Jesus) redemption won for all humanity by his death and triumph over it on the third day. Isaiah52,13ff: "See my servant will act wisely; he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted ... 15 so he will sprinkle [ie wash with his purifying blood, now don't be too embarrassed to get your very own personal faith adult baptism people] many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. ..."

And Isaiah53,1 sounds just like we might speak after a day of intense gospel sharing and prayer with people. "Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm [the wonderful strength] of the Lord been revealed? [We "Christians" believe it! We have accepted the eternal gospel! No turning back now!]. Psalm53,3-5 further describes the basis of eternal gospel- that by one man's suffering and death, ie Jesus of Nazareth on the cross, all of humankind- by personal repentant faith in him- receives the peace of salvation. And wait there's there's even more for each of us- all manner of healing: "He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces [and still too many folks do hide their faces in pride even from the kind and merciful Jesus who revealed the face of our loving father] he was despised [on the wicked pagan] cross, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he took our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities [our sins not his sins]; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed." NIV

Isaiah55 even has a profound invitation to accept our eternal gospel- by way of God's free gift of salvation- every bit as good as any in our New Testament except we are extra blessed to know the precious Name of Isaiah's suffering servant who can save all: 1 "Come all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy, and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. 2 Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen to me, [ie God HIMSELF proclaiming his eternal gospel in HIS Word], and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest fare. 3 Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live [like forever with God!]. I will make an everlasting [personal faith] covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David [and to all my kingly ands queenly people now and in the future]." NIV

Isaiah is so very much attuned with the eternal gospel revealed at Revelation14,6 that at Isaiah55,6 he even reveals a challenging and urgent altar call of sorts to his hearers: 6 "Seek the Lord while he may be found [don't miss your chance]; call on him while he is near [while the Spirit is moving over the waters of your adult baptism like Jesus and all the other folks in the NT bible]. 7 Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon."

Oh glory! He will surely pardon! No sinner is too big for God's pardon. Isaiah didn't make salvation too hard or too easy so neither should we. We lay our sins down at the foot of cross knowing that Jesus died for my sins and yours and everybody else's too, and we die to ourselves, to our boring egocentricities and narcissism and fear and we come out of the chaotic waters of the former things of sin and death, as new creations, with a creditable report, a miraculous report of his loving mercy, of a friend and savior and Lord that sticks closer than a brother, that died for us all, so that we would live together in eternity with him and all the other beloved redeemed of the Lord, who don't mind saying so, if you all are the least bit interested.

Thank you Isaiah for sharing your amazing and hefty foundational basis of our one eternal gospel. And would that we all remember that this eternal gospel is not an idea or a point of philosophical discussion, but a prophetic message of salvation- to be shared by all- by angels- by churches- by all creation- and especially by all of us faithful- to and with all. Amen

Eternal Gospel: No Change Orders
I wrote a bit about the "Eternal Gospel" (Revelation14,6) in the Book Isaiah on August 26, 2025 (below). Today I want to consider "eternal gospel" in terms of its unchangeability- its fixed-eternal quality.

No matter what I teach or say- or any preacher or church says- the whole bible is God-breathed (2Timothy3,16-17) from His eternal Spirit. He-God- utters his eternal word and teaching. It's not ours to mess with or change in any way. It's perfect the way it is. When us humans build buildings- there is the possibility and occasional necessity of a "change order." A change order involves very important new and changed words issued by someone very important in the building process. But God doesn't allow any change orders in what he builds. He alone is the architect of his building-Temple-house (1Peter2) built on the risen Word, the risen Jesus who is the cornerstone of all his houses of worship- and also the architect of Zion millennial Pentecost kingdom (as to the latter see Psalm87,5-6; Zechariah2,4-5).

The risen Jesus, the risen cornerstone, says in the very last book of our 66 book bible: "I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19 If anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book." Revelation22,18-19 So let's be clear- God's word warns us at its very end that if we pick and choose parts of it- all of which is prophetically breathed- and take out other parts we don't like- we are jeopardizing our eternal salvation in the holy city- the holy place that God builds for us to enjoy eternity with him.

I admire a great preacher and prophet who would by great study and prayer reveal the full meaning of a scripture verse or passage. And often in the end he would say- for emphasis and to encourage our full agreement with it- "it is written!" To expound on the fullness of the scripture we love is not to change it in any way, but it does mean we have gotten over our often fleshly objections to it (and perhaps over ourselves) and over our complaining in the desert- and instead accepted God's prophetic Word as "it is written." Now we gain this blessed biblical conviction by studying to show ourselves approved, and then sharing and teaching and mentoring others in the word.

This faith conviction from the word might have have included wrestling for years and years with the many hard and challenging passages of our scriptures- sort of like Jacob wrestling with God through a long night (Genesis32,22-31). But Jacob got his blessing of a new name, one who struggles and overcomes, so we bible Christians also get our blessing of a faith conviction that has struggled and overcome and can't be shaken by every wind of new fangled doctrine.

But get ready- such faith conviction makes some people very mad! Some of Israel in the wilderness- three days after their escape from Egyptian slavery- were mad because the water was bitter at Marah (Ex15,22-16,35). Then a month later they were likewise upset at losing the bread and rich meaty fare of Egypt (Ex16,3). This complaining and anger signified their refusal to fully accept in faith, with full conviction, God's prophetic word to flee Egypt for the promised land. This resulted in them wandering in circles in the desert for forty years. It also meant that a whole complaining upset and ornery generation missed out on the promised land (Numbers32,11-13). They wouldn't stop fighting the prophetic word of God and submit to it in faith.

In our modern day, some Christians have taken a philosophical and skeptical view toward the prophetic Word, as if it were a mere part of a religious or secular "dialog" with the world. Rather than declare, preach and teach the prophetic Word some of us never seem to get around to preaching the one eternal gospel of deliverance and salvation that is our universal calling and great commission (Matthew28,16-20). But this eternal prophetic word always and in every age makes claims and demands on all of us Christians regardless of whatever nation, tribe or people group or church we come from. And some of these claims and demands have always caused much anger and opposition from the world's cognoscenti, the worldly wise ones, the powerful giants of Industry and technology and politics and globalism and endless war.

And also in today's world, there are "Christians" who also seem too skeptical- and perhaps even bored or ashamed that God's no change order eternal gospel prophetically reveals Jesus as "the way, the life and the truth" (John14,6) "there being no other Name under heaven by which men can be saved." (Acts4,12) These exclusive claims of biblical Christianity seem unfair to us moderns- as if the one God of the universe should now suffer rivals, to make himself seem more fair in our modern estimation.

These and other exclusive claims of biblical Christianity also cause anger at God's eternal gospel messengers today- some of whom perhaps can discern like the Apostle Paul the gift of tears and worldly sorrow (sort of like Lot's wife looking back, and turning into a pillar of salt) from the graceful gift of actual repentance of godly sorrow (2Cor1,10) unto a saving personal faith.

There's a humorous Brazilian dicho that captures some of the worldly hostility against bible believing Christians with gospel faith conviction: "I don't know. I don't want to know. And I hate who knows." But as we learn over the years- it's really not us bible Christians modern folks are angry and upset with, but with God's Word and Spirit (and at the end of the day- God Himself).

Psalm148,6 tells us all how powerful a builder God's Word is: "he established them [the sun, moon, stars, heavens, waters above the heavens] forever, by an unchanging decree." NJB So Lord we ask you to issue your powerful and unchanging creative and corrective and compassionate and loving and upbuilding decree over folks who don't know you yet, all those who still fight you and your Word and Spirit.

Conclusion: On the first Pentecost Peter revealed the eternal gospel Word that Jesus was both Lord (ie God) and Christ (Israel's messiah). And the people trusted this eternal gospel Word, convicted by it completely as Acts2,37 describes: "When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" NIV Acts2,38: "Peter replied. 'Repent and be baptized, ever one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of you sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

The Holy Spirit is the greatest gift of totally obeying- in personal faith- unto salvation- the unchanging "eternal gospel" (Revelation14,6) that defines and reveals the fullness of biblical Christianity. The Eternal Gospel Is The Supernatural Joy That Cures The World's Ills
On August 26 I wrote about the "eternal gospel" (Revelation14,6) in the book of the prophet Isaiah- where our suffering servant savior- who we Christians know as Jesus- is predicted to save us by his shed blood. Then on September 6 I wrote about our eternal good-news having no 'change orders.' It's God's perfect revelation, his will and plan for our eternal future. It contains his Spirit- and as such it's perfect just the way it is- so no change orders.

Today I am writing about a Holy Ghost supernatural gift of joy that breaks into us- and then out of us- when we first hear the prophetic good news of salvation and accept it by way of grace and personal faith. The word says "faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God."(Romans10,17) It's a great joy to hear the eternal sin cleansing (Ephesians5,26, with adult baptism), refreshing, and hopeful good news of the Word.

This Word demonstrates that there is a better way than the 'dog eat dog' and the non humanity of endless frauds and sins and destructions of the world. This and other unredeemed worldly attitudes teach us it's "OK" to be less than human. As for a better attitude, we choose faith in Jesus and his Word as our focus and to teach us how to look at the world and our human lives and place in it. This new faith attitude is for me epitomized by a video clip I recently saw of a baby boy hearing his mom's voice for the first time- with the help of hearing aids (God's grace is the best Spiritual hearing aid). A wondrous smile with new knowledge of this sound breaks out on his face. That wondrous joy and new sound and new knowledge is something like the new joy of we humans have the first time we hear the better way of Jesus and his promise of eternal life with him in exchange for faith.

His eternal gospel Word immediately gives us the joy of hearing about someone and something we can totally trust, follow and serve. The people of Israel came back to Jerusalem in about 520 BC after 70 years of exile in Babylon, in the unredeemed world. That exile was a punishment due to the unfaithfulness to the revealed prophetic words and corrections of God to the nation. But God gave them a second chance. And they came back and were joyful to find that there was still someone and something for them to follow and serve- their ever living God who always draws near to all that seek his face.

So under the guidance of Governor Nehemiah they rebuilt the temple- with all the family clans playing a major part. Then they held a community festival day celebrating their return and the rebuild of the temple. Nehemiah 8 provides us with a beautiful outline as to how to receive God's supernatural gift of joy. First, the people tell their teacher Ezra to bring out the Book of Moses (recently rediscovered, the second law, so "Deuteronomy," in 640 BC by King Josiah). So Ezra climbs the platform with it and starts to praise the Lord as the great God, and the people raised their hands in worship too.

Active worship is so important to everybody's joy! It is also a command of the Lord! "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon." Isaiah55,6-7 NIV

After the worship, Ezra reads aloud to them- from daybreak till noon and the people listened "attentively." (v2) They didn't even complain that church was running 'a little long that day." Then the Levites read as well, and also preached and taught (v7): "giving the meaning so that the people understood what was being read." (v8)

By this time the people are in a fully repentant faith mode. God who is Spirit has showed up- in the worship, in the reading of the word, in the instruction of it, and in the repentant graceful response of faith by the people. Yes in His favor to his people- God had followed them back to Jerusalem, but on that festival day the people hadn't yet realized all the blessings and gifts they had already received during that day.

So Nehemiah, the Governor who empowered the people to serve, and Ezra and the Levites-seeing the repentant and faithful reverence of God's people- speak in one voice explaining what has already happened: " 'This day is holy [it's a special day of faith renewal] to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.' For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law." (v9) Then at verse 10 Nehemiah takes the lead and says something timely about the joy of Israel's salvation again that day: "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve [about your sins because by your repentant faith they have been forgiven], for the joy of the Lord is your strength." (8,10)

The people had to be told to go home and celebrate! That sounds strange doesn't it? The problem was they were all shook up bawling and squawlling in repentance (which happens even today), and they didn't realize that by their repentant faith they had already received God's gift of his saving covenantal love and forgiveness and strengthening joy once again. Sometimes we get so caught up in the drama of repentance that we mere humans forget to receive the gifts of forgiveness and joy that such faith brings. We need someone like Nehemiah to say "Be still [ie see and receive the gifts that God is giving you today], for this is a holy day [for it is a day where you again met your saving God by grace, and faith and received the gift of salvation and its joy again]. Do not grieve." (v11)

The priest Ezra, the governor Nehemiah and the Levites are very wisely giving Israel- on behalf of God- permission to receive the gift of His salvation and joy! Oh my the saving covenantal love and joy of our salvation is a great and precious gift! But we still have to take a deep breath and knowingly accept it! Seize it in our spirit man or woman- seize it like a child receiving his or her favorite Christmas present. Who are we humans to argue with God- and yet some will- when our savior Jesus and our loving Father God start freely handing our supernatural gifts?

There may be other people in our lives who insist on us receiving their gifts- but sometimes these tie us down. But with gifts from God there is not only the great and sublime joy of knowing that we have freely received them from HIM alone, but that with Him there are no worldly strings attached! With this experiential joy we can understand what Ezra and Nehemiah and the Levites meant by saying to the people in effect "that's enough church for today- go home and celebrate!"

Here's a question to bring us up to today's time. Where can we reliably taste and see this Spiritual gifts of goodness and freedom and joy of Jesus in today's world? I hope it is at your church, or at a prayer or life group. But we are living in a hectic and distracted and a way less connected age than even a hundred years ago- so I find that contemporary Christian music- like K-Love radio- brings the supernatural joy of God into my world seven days a week. Thirty years ago Christian music was a bit too syrupy for me- or perhaps I was just not sweet enough- but over the years this Christian music has steadily become more challenging and prophetic and effective- not to mention pretty much rock solid biblically (and in so many genres too.)

I love to hear strong and prophetic preaching to this day- it brings me great Holy Ghost joy. But in this last age of the church- contemporary Christian music seems more comfortable with strong and prophetic messages (without even trying too hard) than a goodly portion of preachers in the pulpit. And it's bringing Jesus' gift of joy to those both inside and outside the house of God. Praise Jesus! We all need more of his joy. Our souls are daily facing- even with the full armor of God- destructive powers and principalities and strongholds tied to all the sins and snares of this Babylonian world. And yet and still, we turn in faith to this gift of joy- (thereby redeeming the time, because the days are evil Ephesians5,16), because it is an essential theme of our eternal gospel.

This gift brings greater health and life to our souls and spirits and allows us to maintain our blessed humanity (no small feat in this evil time), and an active faith and the willingness to speak up and tell the gospel story: "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so." (Psalm107,2) We've got to be joyful to say so! And joyful to live the life of faith and our blood bought redemption!

There are so many contemporary Christian artists and praise teams that are demonstrating that the joy of the Lord is indeed our strength. They are redeeming the time. In fact, they are proving to all what many of these gifted musicians already know- that this supernatural worship joy feels- at times- like the only strength we humans have left! Have you been there? And praise Jesus at times like this we totally realize that his joy is our strength. This music sends us "home" again and into the joy of celebration and salvation, into the mode of an ongoing and active faith, a "place" where "no one will take your joy from you." John16,22.

Much of today's contemporary worship music is validly telling God's people- like Nehemiah, Ezra and the Levites did- to take this supernatural gift of joy and strength and salvation home- and wherever else you go- so as redeem the time, that is make all time gospel time, using it wisely, making it holy, time in which we allow the Spirit to be active, Spirit filled and productive time. This music is moving and even curing the cold hearts and cold love fellowships of the last days church (Matthew24,12). And even more importantly it is moving the hearts of unbelievers- or those who perhaps had rejected Christianity for its churchy failures, or lost folks here and there and everywhere who thought perhaps they might be forever stuck in the dog eat dog world of non faith.

How could such joyful radio "success"- joy writ large- happen but as a gift and great move of God? Happiness is not supernatural joy or a great move of God- happiness is often situational, circumstantial, and more or less temporary- but the gift of joy supernaturally dawns anew on us every morning- whenever we get quiet and focused and tune in to Jesus' gifts- like the gift of supernatural enduring joy- that comes with our eternal gospel salvation by way of faith.

Conclusion: God's gift of joy is essential to the 'eternal gospel' of Revelation14,6. It is also essential to living our born again life in freedom from sin and death, and essential to praise and worship that actively empowers all of us to minister salvation to the lost and hurting, and all those still seeking the cure of the dog eat dog attitude that plagues much of fallen humanity.
